Information Needed to Surrender
Oftentimes, pets are surrendered to a shelter because of solvable problems. Issues such as chewing, barking, or litter box problems can be addressed with training and/or a thorough vet check-up. We're happy to counsel pet owners about approaches that can help them keep their pets.
If surrendering a pet becomes unavoidable, we will ask you to present a vet's certificate documenting that the pet is spayed or neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. We also ask for a written vet's statement that the pet is adoptable, meaning it must be healthy and non-aggressive. You will be asked to make an appointment to bring in your pet. When you arrive, we will ask you to fill out a questionnaire about the pet, which will help us place it in a suitable home. A $35 fee is charged for surrendered pets.
